I had the same problem when I was in fifth grade. All you have to do is turn on dimmer and dimmer lights each night until one night you try to sleep without the night-light. If you feel you still need a night-light, repeat the process.

You should turn off all the lights in your room but keep your door open with the hallway light on. Each day close your door a little more so that there is less light in your room. Eventually you will be used to no light in your room.

I'm in seventh grade and I stopped using a night-light this summer. The bulb went out and I forgot to replace it. When I went to sleep without it, I felt a little uncomfortable, but I was O.K. I sleep with my bedroom door open, too, so that made me feel better. Try that!

Ask your parents to get you thin curtains for your windows. Then a little light will come in from outside and you won’t have to use a night-light. I hope this helps!
-Rachel, age 12
Get a stuffed animal to cuddle with, and turn out all the lights. You'll feel more comfortable. I'm in fifth grade and it helps me!
-Kelsey, age 10, Tennessee
I still use a night-light, too! If this is really bothering you, ask your parents to check on you when you’re sleeping and to turn off the light. If you have a rough night and you wake up at 2:00 a.m., have a flashlight handy. Good luck!
-Paige, age 12, Connecticut
It's good to have rituals when you go to bed at night. I'm in sixth grade and still sleep with a special blanket and pillow. Maybe if you picked out a new night-light with a different design, you could still have a light in your room when you slept, but it wouldn’t feel so babyish.

I used to have the same problem. Try sleeping under the covers, and soon you will get used to the dark!
