I am the only 12-year-old girl I know who doesn't have pierced ears. I am worried that it will really hurt! All my friends really think I should just do it. Should I just calm down and get my ears pierced or wait?
-Wondering

Wait until you are completely sure YOU want to get them pierced. Don't let peer pressure overcome you. If you're afraid it will hurt, conduct a poll among your friends to see if it hurt them. You’ll find out that most of the time it didn't hurt, and it'll boost your confidence!

You could just wear clip-on earrings. That way you won't feel left out, but you won't have to get your ears pierced either.
-An AG girl, age 11, Kentucky

I got my ears pierced last year, and it didn't hurt at all—just a slight sting and you’re done! It takes a lot of work to keep your ears healthy, though, with regular cleaning every morning and night.
-Mara, age 13, Indiana

If you are scared about pierced ears, don't get them pierced. But if you are keen on having earrings, just get the sticker kind.
-Nancy, age 11, Maryland

I used to be like you, too, so I asked people who had pierced ears what it felt like. Then I went to the piercing lady. I just closed my eyes and thought of happy things. Try this. It will definitely work!
-Kira, age 10, New York

I don't have pierced ears now because I don't want to take care of them and because that would just be one more thing to worry about. Whatever you do, don't let others decide whether you should pierce your ears.
-Elisabeth, age 12, Hawaii

Try going to a craft store and buying some ear wires, headpins, and fancy beads. Make several pairs of earrings to match your favorite outfits. Display the earrings in your room and think about how much you would love to wear them. Pretty soon you will be dying to get your ears pierced, and you’ll be able to wear your fab jewels in a few months! Hope it helps!
-Rosette Jane, age 12, Maryland

When I got my ears pierced, I told the woman piercing them about my fears. She gave me a teddy bear to squeeze and showed me how the piercing gun works. When she pierced my ears, it hurt only for a second! Now I can wear cute earrings all the time!
