I felt the same way when I started wearing a bra. Other people will most likely be wearing them, too, so you’ll fit right in. Plus, bras are great in gym class, because they give you more coverage. Just be happy with who you are and don’t worry about your classmates’ opinions.

It’s O.K. to be afraid. But you won’t be the only one wearing a bra. And even if you are, who cares? If the other girls are not wearing one now, they will be soon. Until then, stay by a friend you trust or have a friend hold up a towel as you get dressed. Hope this helps you be a little more confident!

There are plenty of other girls who wear bras. Trust me, no one is going to care! If it makes you feel more comfortable, change in a bathroom stall.
-Allie, age 12
A lot of girls in your gym class may already wear bras. If they don’t, they’ll probably ask you for advice instead of making fun of you.
-Caitlin, age 13, Connecticut
If the girls tease you, just ignore them. They will eventually have to wear bras, too—if they’re not already wearing them. But if it gets to the point where they are making you feel uncomfortable, tell a parent or a trusted adult right away.

I have the exact opposite of your problem: I’m one of the only girls in my grade who doesn’t have—or need—a bra. If they haven’t already, your peers will catch up soon. And if it makes you feel better, wear a camisole or thin tank top over your bra.

It’s O.K. to be scared when first wearing a bra. When I started wearing a bra, I felt exactly as you do. Chances are, someone else in you class is just as scared as you, too. It’s normal to be nervous.
-Alexandra, age 11, California
Every girl has to start wearing a bra sometime in her life. You’re probably not the only girl in your class who wears one. If someone makes a big deal about it, just ignore her. She is only looking for someone to tease.
