Thanks, Mom
Mother’s Day is May 11. What’s the best thing about your mom? Eleven-year-old Lauren wants to know what other girls like best about their moms and what they’re doing on Mother’s Day to show that they care. These girls shared their thoughts:

My mom’s laugh is my favorite sound in the world, and her smile could make the worst day seem like the best day.
-An American girl, age 12, Wisconsin

I will pick some flowers for my mom and make her a pretty card with a short, sweet poem inside. Sometimes I get up early to make her pancakes, too. That’s one of the things I l love about my mom—small things mean a lot to her.
-Elizabeth, age 13, Texas

My mom really understands my feelings, and I love her for that. For Mother’s Day, I’m going to take my mom to a teahouse—and use my allowance to pay for it.
-Bethanie, age 11, Taiwan

I live with my Aunt Caroline, so Mother’s Day is for her. I love the way she is always there for me when I am sad or lonely. This Mother’s Day, I am pitching in to buy her a trip to Florida.
-Phoebe, age 12, Virginia

Instead of just telling me what she wants me to do, my mom explains to me why she wants me to do it and why it’s important. It helps me to understand what she expects of me and how I should act.
-Sarah, age 11, Michigan

My parents are divorced, and my mom takes care of us. I really love how she deals with our problems. I love her endurance and her strength. I want to be like her when I grow up.
-Taty, age 11, California

One of the best things about my mom is that she is fun to hang around with. She’s funny, and she really understands me.
-Clare, age 13, Virginia

My mom sews. She always fixes my clothes so that they fit me just right, and sometimes she even makes clothes for me. I love her very much.
-Mary, age 13, Utah

I’m giving my mom a cookie jar filled with 365 reasons why I love her. That’s one good thought every day until next Mother’s Day!
-Mallory, age 11, Oklahoma

My mom is awesome because she supports my siblings and me. My dad is in the military, and he is deployed often. Mom stays home with us while Dad is overseas. Plus, she home-schools all of us! She’s the best mom ever.
-Emily, age 12, Virginia

I’m sad to say that my mother passed away a year ago. But the best thing about her was that she always knew just what to say and was very comforting. I miss her every day, but that’s one great memory of her that I’ll always have.
-Emily, age 14, North Carolina

The best thing about my mom is that she’s not overprotective, but she makes sure that I’m O.K. and that I always have a way to get home from school.
-Tabby, age 12, Virginia

One thing I love about my mom is that she cooks a nice, healthy supper for my family almost every night. My mom is a very adventurous eater, but she always cooks something that everyone in my family will enjoy.
- Lindsay, age 11, Indiana

The best thing about my mom probably is that she always finds the fun in everything. She could fall into a cactus and still be kind of happy about it because then she would have a great story to tell. I’m going to get her a bouquet of flowers and some chocolates, and my family and I might take her out for dinner for Mother’s Day.
-Jakelin, age 8, California

My mom is the best! She looks out for me and always is there for me. She is very protective, and sometimes I don’t like that, but I’m sure that I’ll thank her for it one day.
-Rhianna, age 12, Oregon

Mom and I do special things together when my two brothers and dad are gone somewhere. On this Mother’s Day, my dad and brothers will be gone on a Boy Scout trip, so it’ll be just Mom and me! I would like to watch several chick flicks and do whatever else she wants to do. I want her to decide how to spend Mother’s Day since she’s always doing the things that we want to do.
-Hannah, age 12, Colorado

The best thing about my mom is her sense of humor. When I have a bad day at school or get into a fight with a friend, she knows just what to say and when to say it. My mom is the best at finding the right tickle spots to make me smile. I love my mom!
-Paige, age 11, Virginia

My mom and I like to cook together, so for Mother’s Day I bought her a cute plate for us to use.
-Martine, age 9, Pennsylvania

I love my mom because she has always encouraged me to be myself.
-Madeline, age 11, Texas

My mom is a great role model. She recently went back to college to get her master’s degree in nursing. She studies for hours every day, and even though sometimes she wants to drop out because she’s so stressed, she never gives up. Everyone should be like that. She’s following her dreams, and they’re going to come true.
-Shannon, age 13, Maryland
