Budding Bakers

Let the kitchen inspire her creativity

There's a certain magic that comes from baking. At first it's just a cup of this, a tablespoon of that, and a dash of something else. But with a whip of a whisk and a spin of a spatula, the ingredients go into the oven as a gooey mess and a short time later come out as a spectacular sweet treat.

Our goal is to always inspire girls to follow their imaginations. Baking and cooking are fueled by creativity, which is why we’ve partnered with Williams-Sonoma® to create the American Girl Baking Cookbook, an irresistibly sweet collection of 40 recipes written for kids—from pinwheel cookies and honey Madeleines to s'mores cupcakes. For even more cooking and baking joy, A Smart Girl’s Guide: Cooking will whet their appetites and build their skills for all things cooking-related. The book’s companion, You’re the Chef, will keep them cooking with dozens of recipes for meals, parties, and snacks that are easy to follow and completely delicious.

And because recipes are no good if you don’t have the kitchen tools to complete the baking task, the American Girl collection from Williams-Sonoma® offers everything your girl needs for ultimate kitchen creativity.

Ready to make some magical memories with your girl? Here’s a sweet and satisfying recipe from our cookbook that will make your time together in the kitchen extra special.

Peachy Parfait Recipe

A parfait takes a little more time than a scoop of ice cream, but it makes a splashy and festive presentation!

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups raspberries
  • 2 cups sliced peaches; fresh or frozen and thawed
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 4 whole vanilla wafer-roll cookies
  1. Wash and cut the fruit. Remove any squishy raspberries and pick out any leaves. Wash the raspberries and let them drain well. Cut the fresh or thawed-from-frozen peaches into small chunks.
  2. Mix the fruit with spices. In a medium mixing bowl, gently stir together the raspberries, peaches, sugar, and nutmeg. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Arrange the parfaits. Spoon some of the fruit mixture into the bottom of four parfait glasses. Top each with a large scoop of ice cream. Spoon the remaining fruit on top.
  4. Add a cookie. Stick a cookie into each parfait. Serve right away.
