Kids who bully are looking for a reaction. If you look upset, you’ll be giving them the reaction they want. Instead, follow these tips to look strong and stand tall:
Keep it cool. Try to look bored rather than hurt or angry. Don’t let the bully know she’s gotten to you.
Act confident. Hold your head high, and look the person in the eye. Try to keep your voice steady. Acting confident will help you feel more confident.
Speak up. Say simply, “That’s your opinion,” or “I don’t think so.” Or try humor. Say “Hey, thanks!” with a smile.
Take a break. If you feel your confidence fading, step away from the situation and give yourself a pep talk.
Splash! Cool down with a large drink of water, or splash water on your face to help calm hot feelings.
Breathe. Take a few long, deep breaths. Breathe in confidence and strength, and breathe out stress and worry.
