Samantha has a proper and privileged life with her grandmother in quiet Mount Bedford, New York. She stays out of mischief most of the time, but Samantha longs for someone her own age to share secrets and giggles with. When Nellie moves in next door as a servant, they become fast friends, even though their lives are very different.

Samantha is played by AnnaSophia Robb. The actress loves to dance, swim, ski, run, sing, and compete in gymnastics. She also loves animals. Film and television credits include: Daddy’s Day, Because of Winn-Dixie, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She has also guest-starred on Nickelodeon.

Mia Farrow
Samantha’s wealthy grandmother is loving, but she has a lot of rules about the way a young lady should behave.

Mia Farrow plays the matriarch of the family. She has appeared in many plays on and off Broadway, including The Importance of Being Earnest, Romantic Comedy, The Exonerated, The House of Bernardo Alba, Honnegar’s Saint Joan, Three Sisters, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Ivanov. Film and television credits include: Peyton Place; Peter Pan, a musical; Rosemary’s Baby; The Great Gatsby; Broadway Danny Rose; Purple Rose of Cairo; Radio Days; Widow’s Peak; and Reckless.

Kelsey Lewis
Nellie is working as a servant at the Rylands’, hanging laundry the day Samantha bounds into the backyard. When Samantha starts to help her, Nellie is embarrassed that a wealthy young lady would do such a thing. But she is as eager to have a friend as Samantha is, and soon the two girls forget about their differences. Just when Nellie thinks she’s getting used to working in Mount Bedford, Mrs. Ryland decides to send her back to New York City. Nellie is heartbroken about leaving her best friend, and she’s scared about going back to the city to work in the factories.

Nellie is played by Kelsey Lewis, who enjoys riding dirt bikes and collecting porcelain dolls—in addition to her Samantha and Nellie dolls. She made her film debut in Samantha: An American Girl Holiday. Kelsey’s television credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm and Pink’s music video “Family Portrait.”

Jordan Bridges
There’s plenty of time for fun, especially when Uncle Gard visits. He rumbles in from New York City in his shiny black motorcar and fills the streets with noise and excitement.

Jordan Bridges plays Uncle Gard. His film credits include: Mona Lisa Smile, New Suit, Happy Campers, Frequency, Drive Me Crazy, and MacBeth in Manhattan. His television work includes Law & Order; Criminal Intent, Hack, Dawson’s Creek, Charmed, The Caseys, and Barnum.

Rebecca Mader
Aunt Cornelia has newfangled ideas that are quite different from Grandmary’s old-fashioned ways. Cornelia thinks a woman should be able to work and support herself. Grandmary says ladies who gather in public places make spectacles of themselves, but Cornelia gives speeches in the park to convince people that women should be allowed to vote.

Rebecca Mader plays Aunt Cornelia. Her film credits include Last First Kiss and Mimic: Sentinel. Her television work includes One Life to Live, Guiding Light, All My Children, Fastlane, Madigan Men, and Third Watch.
