T-shirt Pillows
One year at the 4th of July parade at my school, my friends and I sold pillows that we'd made out of our old T-shirts. My friends came over to my house with T-shirts our moms said we could use. We sewed up the sleeves and bottoms of the shirts, and then we stuffed the pillows with fluff. Finally, we sewed up the neck. We sold them for $5 each.
What kind of tree can you fit in your hand?
A palm tree!
Banana Boat
Grab a banana and some vanilla yogurt. Use a butter knife to slice the banana to make a 'boat.' Spread a little yogurt inside, and add strawberries and granola. What a yummy snack!
You've Got the Job!
What job do you dream of having when your grow up? Show off your dream throughout your room. For example, if you would like to be a veterinarian someday, male a construction-paper sign for your door. It will look like someone is stepping into your "veterinary office" instead of your bedroom! Or if you want to be an artist, display your artwork on the walls and hang up a poster from your favorite art museum. Keep on dreaming!
Not for Babies!
If you're having trouble keeping a kid happy, casually mention that you were planning to play a game, watch a movie, make a snack, etc., but it seems as if he's not old enough for it. He might try harder to be good, just to prove he is mature enough. This has worked for me.
Find the Beat
For this game, you need small drums or pots (or you can tap on your legs), two drumsticks (or spoons), and two or more people. Start the game by tapping on your drum. The next person has to try to tap the same rhythm on her drum. Every time the next rhythm is made, make sure to rotate so everyone has a turn. See if you can all find the beat!
Too-Cool Spools
You can make tiny people from used thread spools. Ask a parent for a few used spools and paint them in whatever colors you like. Let dry. Next, purchase small Styrofoam balls from a craft store-these will be the heads for your people-and paint them. You can paint facial features and hair on the heads, too. Let dry. Attach the balls to the spools using Glue Dots. Wait until everything is dry, and then display your little dolls.
Know Your Facts
If you are reading your textbook and are having trouble with a certain section, get out a notebook and write down all the facts that you think are important from that section. The next day, ask your teacher to look at your list so that you can be sure you understand the most important information from that section.
