Past You Said It!
Ten-year-old Lili asked this question: "What is your favorite memory from this summer?"
These girls shared their thoughts:
My favorite summer memory was going to my best friend's birthday party. It was so much fun. We dressed up in fancy clothes, laughed until our sides hurt, and later we changed into our swimsuits and soaked each other with water balloons. It was the best day!
–Jenni, age 10, Nevada
My favorite memory was going to Italy to visit my grandpa and my dad's side of the family. I met my dad's cousins, aunts, and uncles. We ate tons of bread and the yummiest pizza I've ever had.
–Madison, age 12, Virginia
My family decided to not travel this year, so I made a list of fun things my little brother and I could do at home. We made a "beach" at home, biked around town, and made our own ice cream. It was awesome to spend lots of time with my brother.
–Lea, age 11, Kentucky
This summer, I got first place in a swim meet. It was my first blue ribbon! I was so excited.
–Ayla, age 10, Iowa
This summer, I got to go to Georgia to see my best friends who moved away a year ago. It was hard when we had to go, but we had so much fun together.
–Gwyneth, age 9, Alabama
My best memory was when my dad came home from serving in Iraq. I was so worried about him. I was at the mall with my mom and sister when he came up behind us and whispered, "Miss me?" I am so happy that he's home—it was the best surprise in the world.
–Addie, age 13, Michigan
I think the best thing I did this summer would be looking at tide pools. I saw some pretty cool things! It's amazing to see how many creatures call tide pools their home.
–Dana, age 10, California
Every week this summer, my dad and I worked at a stand at our local farmers' market. It was fun to help out and learn how things grow, too.
–Amber, age 11, Illinois
When my family and I were on vacation, we rowed out to a small nearby island to watch the sunset. It was so beautiful.
–Anna, age 11, Washington
This summer, I went to sleep-away camp for the first time. Before I left, I was nervous that I wouldn't make friends, but before I knew it, I'd made friends with every girl in my cabin. I'm really glad I went.
–Noga, age 10, Ohio
My favorite memory from this summer was volunteering at an animal shelter. It was fun to take the puppies for walks and play with kittens. I hope to volunteer there again next summer.
–Rachel, age 13, Delaware
My favorite memory from the summer was when I performed in a play at a local theater. I played one of the main roles and was so proud of myself. I worked hard, and I was happy when we celebrated at the end of the show.
–Erica, age 11, Ohio
A few weeks ago, I went camping with my best friend and her parents. She lives far away, so we don't get to see each other that much. We went swimming, walked her dogs, ate s'mores, and made bracelets. We shared a lot of laughs, and the trip reminded us why we're best friends—our love for adventure!
–Laura Nicole, age 13, Michigan
During the summer, many people go on vacations, visit water parks, or go camping. My family chose to stay put this summer, and I actually enjoyed just staying home. Relaxing and being with my family was the best part of the summer.
–Bella, age 12, Texas
