Past You Said It!

Far from Homework

Nine-year-old Taylor asked this question: "If you had the chance to go to school in another country, which country would you choose and why?"

These girls shared their thoughts:

I would love to go to school in Costa Rica. At lunchtime, my friends and I could eat at the beach. For our field trips, we could go to water parks and jungles. And while doing my schoolwork, I could look out the classroom window and have a view of the ocean.
–Abigail, age 11, North Carolina

I'd pick France. The culture seems so interesting—wonderful food, fantastic art, and cute berets! I'd love to learn more about French architecture, too, especially when it comes to the Eiffel Tower.
–Maria, age 12, Texas

There are many places I'd like to go to school, but the top one is India. I'd get to eat delicious Indian food and wear beautiful clothes. At my school, maybe I could even take dance classes!
–Kienyen, age 10, California

I would choose to go to a school in Italy. I went to Venice last year, and the people seemed so nice. I think I would feel very comfortable going to school in Italy.
–Allie, age 11, Arizona

When I was younger, I lived in Venezuela, but I moved away three years ago. If I could go to school in another country, I would go back to Venezuela, where my old friends and grandparents live.
–Manuela, age 13, California

I'd choose to go to school in Greece. We'd probably take trips to lots of ancient monuments, and I love visiting those kinds of places. Instead of taking a trip to an amusement park or an aquarium, I'd get to go to the Parthenon.
–Caroline, age 11, Maine

I used to live in the Philippines, and I went to school there, too, so if I could go to school in another country, I'd go back there. The culture is very interesting, and I'd get to eat my favorite foods again, like sticky rice.
–An American Girl fan, age 9, Maryland

I would like to go to school in Scotland. It would give me the chance to learn about my Scottish heritage and see where my great-grandma lived.
–Caitlin, age 12, Virginia

I would like to go to school in Egypt because so much history is there. I love to learn about mummies and old tombs. I want to be an archeologist when I grow up!
–An American Girl fan, age 11, Missouri

I'm home-schooled, but when I went with my family to Africa a few years ago, I actually got to attend a school there for a few weeks. Even though I had a lot to learn about the culture, I had a lot of fun. That's the school I would go to.
–Abigail, age 13, South Carolina

I would go to a school in Ireland. I've never been there, but I did a school project about it recently and saw that it's a really beautiful place. I think it would be cool to walk home from school every day and see those rolling green hills.
–Abby, age 11, Illinois

I would go to school in Spain and join a soccer team. I love soccer, and it's my dream to be a professional soccer player someday.
–Christina, age 13, Alaska

If I had the chance to go to a school in another country, I'd actually choose to stay put at the school I go to now. My school is amazing—fun activities, unique classes, kind teachers, and nice friends. I wouldn't change a thing!
–Ria, age 12, California
