Exercise that gets your heart pumping and makes you breathe hard gives your heart—and your body—a workout. Your heart is a muscle, after all, and the stronger it is, the better it is at pumping blood to your lungs and the rest of your body.

 So what kind of exercise is best for you and your girl to do together? Anything fun that makes you want to play! Take your dog for a lively walk, or put on some tunes and dance like you mean it! Maybe challenge each other to a jump rope competition—who can jump the longest? The fastest? On one foot or two? Or who has the best trick jump? Whatever you do, try to get your heart pumping for at least 30 minutes three times a week—even if it’s in three 10-minute bursts. Your heart will be better able to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the rest of your body, and you’ll become healthier and more energetic, together!

Easy to make—and tasty, too—these protein-packed grab-and-go granola bites are just the right balance of fuel and fun. The best part about this recipe is that you choose the ingredients you like best. Choose one ingredient from each category, and follow the steps to create a custom snack.

Choose ONE of these:


½ cup peanut butter

½ cup almond butter

½ cup sunflower seed butter

Add ONE of these:


1 tablespoon agave nectar

1 tablespoon honey

and ONE of these:


1 cup oats

1 cup crisp rice cereal + ¼ cup oats

Choose TWO of these:


¼ cup dark chocolate chips

¼ cup dried cranberries

¼ cup shredded coconut

¼ cup crushed pretzels

and ONE of these:


1 tablespoon chia seeds

1 tablespoon ground flax seed



Add all the ingredients you chose to a mixing bowl and stir until combined. Line a baking sheet or cutting board with wax paper. Use clean hands to roll the mixture into 1-inch balls, and place them on the wax paper. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Once set, store in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Experiment with different ingredient combinations to find your favorites, and voilà! Heart healthy-bites for you and your girl!
