What is this audition all about?

We are looking for the next American Girl host for our YouTube series AG Life.
Ideal candidates are girls (ages 13-16, all ethnicities) who truly embody AG Life with their creativity and love for life.

How can my teenager audition to become the next host of AG Life?

To audition, girls must have their parent or guardian’s permission to participate, and they must attend the audition with their girl!
We encourage everyone to RSVP using the following link: AG Life Open Call RSVP
Your RSVP ensures that you and your girl receive additional audition information, and it helps us get to know your girl in advance. It does not pre-register your girl for an audition. (see below).
Though we encourage an RSVP, you can also show up for the open call audition.

Here are the open call details:

August 24, 2017
Registration 10AM - 12PM
American Girl Place New York
609 Fifth Ave at 49th Street
New York, NY 10017

If we show up to the Open Casting call, is my girl guaranteed an audition?

The first 300 registered on-site the day of auditions will be guaranteed an audition. Our goal is to audition as many girls as time allows, and we will do our best to see everyone.

What if I can't make it to the open casting?

Attending the open casting call is mandatory in order to be considered.

How old does my girl have to be to audition?

Girls must be 13-16 years old to audition.

Do we have to live in NYC to participate?

The majority of our AG Life episodes are filmed in NYC, so while you do not need to live in the city to be a host, you must be willing to travel there. We encourage everyone to consider personal travel commitment when filming. AG Life hosts are compensated, but the show does not pay for travel.

What is the time commitment of the show?

Your girl must commit to filming up to 36 episodes. We typically film 1-2 times a week during the day for no more than 6 hours. Schedules are based on host availability and production needs.

Can boys audition for AG Life?

Yes, while our ideal candidates would be girls ages 13-16, we welcome boys of the same age range to try out if they’re interested!

Do girls need permission from their parents to audition?

Yes, girls must have their parent or legal guardian's permission, and they are required to submit paperwork on their girl's behalf. They also must be in attendance with their girl at the open audition.

Will it cost me any money to participate?

No, it does not cost anything to audition or participate as a host.

Do the AG Life hosts get paid?

Yes, being an AG Life host is a paid gig. Payment will be discussed with the selected candidate(s) directly and will be based on a filming day rate.

How can my girl prepare for her audition?

The best way to prepare for the audition is to fill out the RSVP form. This allows you to receive audition details in advance. However, even if you don't RSVP, you can still audition at the open call. Everyone will receive a script during registration, and the casting director may ask your girl to give 30-second answers to a few questions.

What should girls wear to audition?

Feel free to let your girl have fun and get creative with her wardrobe! Clothing that reflects her personality and the AG Life style is definitely a plus. However, clothing cannot have any visible brands or logos other than American Girl (i.e., NO Nike Swoosh, Hello Kitty, Adidas logo, etc.). The entire audition process will be filmed, so it is important that both parents and participants avoid clothing with visible trademarked materials.

What can I expect on audition day?

You can expect loads of fun on audition day! The auditions will be filmed, so anyone has a chance to be included on an episode of AG Life. The first thing you must do is arrive for registration between 10am-12pm. You will be given paperwork (as well as a script to practice) and a ticket for your scheduled audition time. You can leave after registration and come back at your girl’s appointed time. You will meet the current AG Life hosts, and you may even be asked to do a red carpet-style interview.

When do I find out if my girl has been chosen?

If she is chosen, casting directors and producers will contact you directly within one month of the audition day. Unfortunately, we will not be able to contact participants who were not chosen for a call back due to the high volume of auditions.

Please do not call American Girl for status updates, as we won’t be able to assist you.

So if we don’t get a call back within a month, my girl didn’t get chosen?
