Help kids enjoy the value of the great outdoors!

For many adults, childhood memories are synonymous with outdoor moments like climbing trees, skipping stones, or growing flowers. Unfortunately today’s kids spend twice as much time indoors as their parents and grandparents did, missing out on the simple pleasures and lasting mental and physical health benefits of daily outdoor time.

Studies show children who spend time in nature are healthier and happier, and become better stewards of the environment. National Wildlife Federation’s (NWF) Be Out There™ is a national movement to help return to children what they have lost—a connection to the natural world and the joy and discovery it brings.

NWF is proud to partner with the American Girl® 2010 Girl of the Year®, Lanie™. Lanie’s curiosity for nature captures the essence of the Be Out There™ campaign. She dreams of outdoor adventures in far-off places, but then discovers the joys of gardening and birdwatching right in her own backyard. In partnership with American Girl®, NWF looks forward to inspiring girls around the world to connect with nature through outdoor play.
